1921: WHEN IT ALL BEGAN

The history of the Ferraris Agricola winery began when great-grandfather Luigi emigrated to America and found gold during the "Golden rush" in California. Thanks to his income, great-grandmother Teresa, who had remained in Italy, had the opportunity to make his dreams come true. In 1921 she bought the house, in Castagnole Monferrato, in Via al Castello, home of the first Ferraris winery. Two years later, grandfather Martino bought the "Casot", a rural farmhouse in the middle of a 40,000 square meter plot where today one of the most representative vineyards of the company stands. However, the production of wine remained a passion and never a job. Thus, for decades, the grapes were given to the town's Social Cooperative.

1999: THE TURNING POINT

In 1999, after graduating in Agriculture, Luca Ferraris settled in the company, starting from what had been done by his grandfather Martino at the beginning of the century. For the first time, Luca Ferraris takes care of the Ruchè supply chain. In fact, he is the first in the area to thin out the grapes to increase their quality and set up the company exclusively for the production of high-level bottled wine. At the same time, Luca Ferraris begins to spread the quality of Ruchè beyond the Piedmontese borders. The 10,000 bottles produced in 2000 became 60,000 in 2003 thanks to the partnership between Ferraris Agricola and Randall Grahm of the already famous Bonny Doon Vineyard (California).

2009: THE CELLAR AND THE FERRARIS DREAM

The new winery of Ferraris Agricola was built in record time in 2009 and was completed on August 31st. The passage from the historic site was forced by the increase in volumes and bottles produced. The new structure is spread over 1000 square meters for 3 floors: in the basement there is the barrel room for aging, so as to keep the temperature constant but in a natural way. The entire production takes place on the ground floor: from vinification to bottling. Also on the ground floor are the tasting room and the shop. The offices, the brain of the company, have been set up above the latter, where the team gathers to discuss and create all business strategies, from production to marketing. A large window allows an overall and transparent view of the entire supply chain

2010: WHEN HISTORY BECOMES PRESENT

In 2010, the historic cellar, the one purchased by great-grandmother Teresa, by the will of Luca Ferraris, was transformed into the family history museum. An act to honor grandfather Martino and to put the history of Ruchè and a wine-growing area at the center. The renovation is carried out respecting the historical architecture. In fact, the Museum preserves the arches of ancient bricks simply resting on tuff walls. Inside the museum, in addition to the historical tools of the trade, there is a spectacular "infernot" carved by hand in the tuff. The latter is part of that series of infernots which, together with the splendid vineyards, have made the Monferrato wine landscape a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

2010: WHEN HISTORY BECOMES PRESENT

2016: VINEYARD OF THE PARISH PRIEST AND THE FUTURE OF RUCHÈ

In 2016, La Vigna del Parroco became part of the company's assets. Luca Ferraris was in fact chosen by Don Giacomo Cauda first, putative father of Ruchè, and then by Francesco Borgognone, as a witness and ambassador of the history and future of Ruchè. The history of this vine, whose origins are still mystical, is in fact linked to the parish priest of the town, Don Giacomo Cauda, who was the first to make wine with this grape and sell it in bottles. The Vigna del Parroco will become the flagship wine of the company and the flag of Ruchè in the world.

TODAY: THE EVOLUTION OF RUCHÈ

The Ferraris brand is now present in over 35 markets with more than 300,000 bottles. Producing wines, for Ferraris Agricola, means respecting: the vineyard, the people and their talents. Within the company, 75% of the employees are young people. Since 2018, the company has been certified sustainable and it is the technique and ingenuity of man that make the difference.

Luca Ferraris has chosen to decline his entrepreneurial vocation at the service of a territory, not only by cultivating its grape but also a supply chain and value project of which anyone who tastes a bottle of wine is an accomplice.
